"I'm a folk musician and composer with nearly a decade of teaching and playing experience. Whether you want to play professionally, or just be able to jam with your friends, I'll help you get on the right track."
About The Teacher
Emma Steen is a New York-based multi-instrumentalist and composer. She began
performing professionally since her sophomore year of high school, and has since played at
dozens of renowned venues, such as The Knitting Factory, the Highline Ballroom, and The Bitter
End, and festivals including Fete de la Musique, Porch Stomp, New Rochelle Jazz Festival. Her
music has been featured in internationally shown films, and her first feature-film work is due for
release in Fall 2022.
Over the last eight years, Emma has successfully adjusted her teaching style for every student she has worked with; from music appreciation for toddlers to teenagers auditioning for college to adults ready to join bands, she adapts her lesson plans to your goals and needs, targeting specific areas of growth through the songs that you love rather than through exercise books. She also encourages introspection from any musician that she works with: She’ll ask you why you’re drawn to a particular instrument or genre, and in composition and production lessons, she’ll ask you to detail your creative process:
She believes that as a tutor, there is no greater lesson she can impart than how to take a bird’s-eye view of your own musical life. Let her know what you want to learn, and you’ll work towards it together.
